Suffolk’s newest French-country-inspired wedding and event venue, The Legacy at Willow Pond, located at 4251 White Marsh Rd., celebrated its official ribbon cutting on Saturday, Nov. 9.

A significant turnout from city leaders and the community marked the opening, underscoring the excitement surrounding the new addition to the area. The ceremony, held at 9:30 a.m., was attended by Suffolk Mayor Michael Duman and City Council members LeOtis Williams, John Rector, Timothy Johnson, and Leroy Bennett, alongside Sheriff David Miles. Owners Veronica and Mark Thompson led the ceremonial ribbon cutting, joined by investors Ken and Christine Delaney, who supported this dream venue’s vision.

Duman called the venue an asset to Suffolk’s hospitality industry and one that will boost tourism in the city.

“I would like to congratulate you on opening this beautiful venue in Suffolk,” Duman said. “As a small business owner myself, I understand the time and energy a commitment like this takes, and I commend you for that. Having a venue like this in Suffolk is a great asset to our hospitality industry and boosts our tourism footprint. Your website says that this is more than a venue, but an experience, and I know the experiences and memories that will be made here at weddings and other events will be unforgettable. We are grateful to have you here and wish you the best of luck.”

Mark talked about the journey to get to where the venue is now.

“After putting this on our hearts, to build this venue, it has been an eight-year journey and God has seen us through it all,” Mark said. “The City of Suffolk has many great employees that went over and beyond to assist us and get us to this place of opening. We couldn’t be more thankful for their support.”

Likewise, Veronica shared the vision for The Legacy at Willow Pond.

“Our vision for The Legacy at Willow Pond was to create a welcoming space where every event feels uniquely tailored and thoughtfully curated,” Veronica shared. “We are thrilled to provide a space that offers warmth, elegance, and functionality for our clients, allowing them to experience a memorable celebration or special event.”
