Thacher L. Taft, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Thacher was born on April 6, 1957 in Germany. He was adopted by his parents,

Theodore and Faye, in 1959 and spent much of his childhood growing up in northern

Virginia and residing on Camp Peary in Williamsburg, VA.

Shortly after graduating high school, Thacher joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1978. He served a fulfilling career and honorably retired after over 30 years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. After his retirement, he and his wife settled in Suffolk, VA.

Thacher was also an avid self-taught guitarist and musician. He enjoyed learning to play his favorite songs and playing casually with friends and for his family.

Remaining to cherish Thacher’s memory are his wife Judith; children William (with his wife Heather) and Faye (with her husband Josh); grandchildren Rachel, Wesley, Jason, and Calvin; and sister Katharine.

No services will take place, as Thacher requested, but his family appreciates your love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Thacher’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) to support research, or to your favorite music education support organization.
