Keep Suffolk Beautiful at August Recycling Drive

Keep Suffolk Beautiful and Suffolk Master Gardeners are teaming up for an upcoming Recycling Drive in August.

Hosted by KSB, the free event is set for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Florence Bowser Elementary. Suffolk residents will have a chance to recycle and dispose of items from their home, yard and garage responsibly. Document shredding will also be available. Likewise, donations of food and toiletries are welcome and will be distributed by the Suffolk Christian Center.

The new partnership helps to reduce waste in local landfills while also supporting both organizations’ mission of eco-friendly practices. In a statement, Stacey Morgan Smith of Suffolk Master Gardeners the importance of donating used plant pots.

“Donating used plant pots is environmentally beneficial, extending their lifecycle and promoting sustainable gardening practices for a greener tomorrow,” Smith said.

Example of accepted items include electronics (no tube TVs or TVs larger than 42 inches), gently used clothing, glass containers, plastic bags, bottles and jugs #1 and #2, cardboard, paper and magazines. SPSA Waste Solutions will also be on-site to collect household hazardous wastes such as gasoline, oil, propane tanks, batteries and more. The Lion’s Club will also be on-site to collect eyeglasses and hearing aids. Likewise, KSB will be collecting U.S. flags in need of proper decommissioning while the Suffolk Mosquito Control will distribute information and offer Suffolk residents free packs containing two mosquito dunks.
