The spirit of the season continued to thrive at the Suffolk Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement officials shared toys and gifts to community churches and nursing homes on Monday, Dec. 4 and Tuesday, Dec. 5, bringing holiday cheer to church members and nursing home residents as the Christmas countdown continues. Visits included Union Baptist Missionary Church and Tabernacle Outreach Center, as well as Autumn Care of Suffolk and Maryview Nursing Care Center, among others. Likewise, nursing home visits also saw Kriss Kringle’s special appearance to share joy with facility residents. Chief Deputy David Miles reflected on the holiday distributions.
“Both the churches and the residents at each nursing home were thrilled to receive a special holiday visit from our office,” Miles said. “The churches were amazed at the amount of toys they received. The nursing homes were also thrilled to see Santa Claus and were happy to have us as visitors.”
Miles expressed the “overwhelming amount” of community support from the gifts received from donations and noted how they tried to distribute all gifts evenly during their visits. Miles gave a special message to the churches and care centers they visited.
“We want to say thank you to those who generously donated to our annual Toy Drive and nursing home visits. Without them, this would not have been possible,” Miles said. “We thoroughly appreciate the churches and nursing homes welcoming us in to spread holiday cheer and community love. We always look forward to celebrating the holidays with the community.”
