King’s Fork High School Chorus students shared their vocal talents with the School Board. During its board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 12, at City Hall Chambers, the KFHS chorus led the board and audience members in the Pledge of Allegiance. After the Board’s mission statement, presented by Board Vice Chair Heather Howell, the students sang both the national anthem and the traditional Sesotho Folk Song, Sikirileke/Koloi, by Sabelo Mthembu with the instruction of KFHS Chorus Instructor and SPS alumni Dante Copeland, who also took part in playing the drums.

Following their performance, Board Member Dr. Judith Brooks-Buck expressed how “wonderful” the students were, while Board Member Phyllis Byrum commended the chorus.

“You do an excellent job, and we thank all of you for your devotion and dedication to this program. It really shows,” Byrum said. “You did an excellent job.”

Board Member Kimberly Slingluff called their performance “outstanding,” while Board Member Karen Jenkins said it was “awesome and Grammy worthy.” Board Member Dawn Marie Brittingham also commended their “beautiful talent.”

“I know the Lord has great plans for you, and those voices are angelic. Well done,” Brittingham said.

Howell called the performance “beautiful” while thanking them for starting the meeting on a “lighthearted” and “positive note.” Lastly, Board Chair Tyron Riddick said the students did an outstanding job.

“These young people could be in so many other places, but they are out here tonight using their talents to bring joy to everyone,” Riddick said.
