The Suffolk Public Works Engineering Division announced that the final stages of the eastbound lane construction, spanning from Enterprise Drive to Grove Avenue, are nearly complete in a news release. The contractor is now preparing for the next phase, which will involve a different traffic pattern for westbound commuters.

“The contractor will establish a temporary lane within the future median during this next phase,” the release said. “Eastbound traffic will be redirected to the newly constructed eastbound lanes, starting just west of Enterprise Drive and extending to Grove Avenue. Westbound traffic will remain unaffected.”

This phase will necessitate a division of traffic. Certain side streets and entrances will prohibit motorists from crossing the median. Motorists will need to travel to an accessible intersection followed by a U-turn. This phase is anticipated to span approximately two to three months.

Project Engineer Mitch Conner says the change is necessary.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, as it is an unavoidable necessity,” he said.

The transition to the new traffic pattern is scheduled to occur after Sept. 21, 2023.
