The Suffolk Foundation announced the opening of its Community Impact Grants Program for 2023 in a news release. Through these competitive grants, the Suffolk Foundation is enhancing the communities of Suffolk and Western Tidewater by partnering with local nonprofits and supporting their projects.
“The Foundation is interested in contributing to any number of worthy causes that benefit our area, including programs pertaining to the arts, health, education, human needs, and the environment,” the release said. “Nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt public charities under the 501(c) (3) Internal Revenue Code are encouraged to apply. The proposed project or program must serve residents of Suffolk and/or Western Tidewater.”
According to the release, last year, the Suffolk Foundation awarded $140,000 in Community Impact Grants to 31 deserving nonprofits and $700,000 across all of its grants and scholarship programs in 2023. Since its founding in 2006, the Suffolk Foundation has awarded $8 million in grants and scholarships to benefit our community. This is thanks to hundreds of local donors contributing to the Suffolk Foundation’s grant fund. Many families and businesses start their own charitable funds through the Suffolk Foundation.
The online application for the Community Impact Grants Program opens on Sept. 1 at www.suffolkfoundation.org. Applications must be submitted online by 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct.13. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Suffolk Foundation’s new executive director, Lorelei Morrow, at 757-923-9090 before applying or with any questions.
The Suffolk Foundation’s staff and board are holding an Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to meet past grantees, prospective applicants, interested donors, and other community members. The Foundation office is located inside the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts at 110 West Finney Avenue in downtown Suffolk.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Suffolk Foundation’s grant pool or starting a charitable fund for grants or scholarships, contact Lorelei Morrow at 757-923-9090.
