Saturday lightning strike causes fire displacing 2

A Saturday afternoon fire in the 2700 block of Lake Cohoon Road displaced two adults, damaging the home’s crawl space and causing smoke damage to the entire house.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue residential structure fire at 6:28 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, after the next door neighbor called 911 to report smoke coming from underneath the residence after a lighting strike, a department news release stated.  

Engine 4 arrived at 6:35 p.m. to find light smoke showing from the front of the single-story residential structure. Firefighters found fire in the crawl space of the structure and performed an aggressive interior attack to stop the fire’s progress, the release stated. The release said the occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.  No firefighters were injured.

The fire was placed under control at 7:29 p.m. Twelve Fire and Rescue units responded to the call.
