An ordinance of land acquisition for the future Hobson Park project has been approved. During their consent agenda held Wednesday, Aug. 16 at City Hall, council members accepted and appropriated $44,550 in funds from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation under the Open Space Lands Preservation Trust Fund. Allowing the Department of Parks of Recreation to acquire 0.32 acres, City Manager Albert S. Moor detailed that funding will be used to purchase a site within the Hobson neighborhood to create a neighborhood park.

“Adoption of the ordinance will increase the revenue’s expenditures of the consolidated grant fund budget by $44,550 and there’s no local match,” Moor said during the meeting.

Other items that were observed during the consent agenda included an ordinance to accept $500,000 in funds from the Virginia Department of Transportation for the Public Works Relocation of Zone C Headquarters project. The funds are noted to assist with construction of a stormwater drainage facility that is part of the project at Northgate Commerce Park. 

Likewise, an ordinance to appropriate $923,192 in funding from the FY 2023-2024 Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnership Program from the U.S. Department of Housing and Development was observed. In compliance with the FY 2023-2024 Annual Action Plan, funds from the CDBG totaling $496,361 will be used for program administration and activities providing services to low-to-moderate income residents. HOME funds totaling $426,831 will be used for program administration and activities for low-to-moderate residents of the Western Tidewater HOME Consortium.

These additional agendas were approved with a vote of 8-0.
