Five Suffolk high school graduates who were honor students recently received scholarships from the Quantez Russell Scholarship Fund LLC to further their education.

“The Quantez Russell Scholarship Advisory Board is so proud to announce these wonderful accomplishments of these young people,” Joan Turner said in a news release announcing that the scholarship fund was able to help five students this year, up from three in past years.

Three recent Nansemond River High School honor graduates were selected by the Quantez Russell Scholarship Fund, two receiving $500 and one $250.

The NRHS recipients are:

• Dallas Slaughter, who is a career technical education graduate. He was inducted into the CTE National Honor Society, a Beta Club member and inducted into the National Honor Society. He will attend Old Dominion University, majoring in kinesiology.  
• Emma Harsch, who attended the Governor School of the Arts. She will attend Christopher Newport University, majoring in business. 
• Lamareiana Jordan, who will attend Virginia Wesleyan University, majoring in biology. She will be in the Army ROTC at VWU. 

“Please help us to congratulate Dallas, Emma and Lamareiana on all of their accomplishments,” the news release stated.

One recipient was selected from King’s Fork High School to received a $500 scholarship from the Quantez Russell Scholarship Fund.

Ashley Martin, a recent KFHS graduate, is an honor graduate and an International Baccalaureate student, as she completed college requirements at Camp Community College to receive her associates degree. She will attend the University of Virginia in the fall

“Congratulations to Ashley on a wonderfully written essay and for every additional scholarship that she didn’t just receive, but earned,” the advisory board said in the release. “We know that she will do exceptionally well. Help us to congratulate Ashley on all of her accomplishments.”

One Lakeland High School received a $500 check on behalf of the Quantez Russell Scholarship Fund

Demauri Chambliss is a recent LHS honor graduate who received scholarship offers adding up to over $1 million dollars, including a full ride, covering room and board and tuition at Norfolk State University for four years. 

“Thank you Demauri for writing an essay that left us all speechless,” the advisory board stated in its release. “It does our hearts well knowing that you’ll graduate from NSU in four years debt free. Help us to congratulate Demauri on a job well done.”
