Magnolia United Methodist Church is getting set for its summer Vacation Bible School, which runs from 5:30-9 p.m. from June 26 through June 30 at the church’s location of 1764 Wilroy Road. Following the 5:30 p.m. dinner, the program will start at 6 p.m. This year’s theme is titled Food Truck Party based on the scripture of Matthew 6:11: “Give us this day our daily bread.”
“From ages potty-trained – 3 years old to 110 years old – everybody is welcomed. We will have an adult class, we’re looking forward [to it]. And several of our teachers are coming from another church,” Administrative Council Chairperson Judi Delpiero said.
Delpiero said teachers and various members from St. Paul Church at 619 Spruce St. are participating in the Vacation Bible School. Likewise, she shared how her work with St. Paul is to help break down barriers.
“There should be no such thing as ‘color barrier.’ There’s one race — that’s the human race, and I get very passionate about that. God doesn’t look down and go ‘Here’s this corner, this corner.’ It makes me very sad that Sundays are the most segregated time in everybody’s life and that’s because churches are separate. And we’re trying to, at St. Paul and Magnolia, to break those walls down,” Delpeiro said. “Just like in Heaven, there’s no Baptist corner and no Methodist corner, on Earth there is no color corner. We are all one family.”
