Police said Carr was the driver of the vehicle and father of the infant in the car. Ray is not the child’s mother.

The infant remains in an area hospital and is accompanied by a family member, police said in a news release Thursday.

The preliminary investigation of Suffolk Police determined the vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole.

The accident is still under investigation. The Suffolk Police Department is asking anyone with additional information to contact Suffolk Crime Line or communications at the non-emergency number. Please contact Investigator Officer E. May at 757-923-2350 (Option 8).

Eight Fire and Rescue units respond to the call, along with the police department.
