Delmar Leigh Spivey Jr., 76, of Suffolk passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 12, 2023. He was born May 25, 1946, to the late Delmar and Eva Spivey. He was preceded in death by his love, Connie Truitt and son-in-law, Alan Polson.

Delmar, “Buck”, served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he drove a tractor-trailer for D.L. Spivey Trucking and later owned and operated Advanced Wood Products Corporation in Suffolk. Buck was a hard worker and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dog, Molly. He loved tending to his vegetable garden and believed there was nothing a bungee cord or zip tie couldn’t fix.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teresa Gardner (Lorain), Debi Brooks (Rickey) of Suffolk and Beth Polson (Lee Joyner) of Aulander, N.C.; sister, Darlene Wilkins (Pete) of Suffolk, and brother Brian Spivey (Elaine) of Carrsville; grandchildren, Kristina Stancil (Jonathan), Meagan Barnes, Brittany Portlock (J.D.), Kelsi Polson, Shayne Brooks, Kierstyn Polson and Brandyn Polson; great-grandchildren, Jack Stancil and Camden Portlock; his beloved dog, Molly and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road. Friends are welcome to join the family at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory at noon to process to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
