Carol Lynne Osborne Shotton passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at home with family by her side.
Mrs. Shotton was born on Jan. 26, 1939, in Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Elkin, N.C., daughter of the late Carolyn Halsey Osborne and Troy Woodrow Osborne. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Thomas Shotton; son, Charles Thomas Shotton Jr. and wife Linda; daughter, Cynthia Lynne Shotton Garner and husband Mark; five grandchildren, Graham Kittrell Garner and Lillian Gayhardt Garner of Oakwood, Ohio; Charles Randolph Shotton, William Worth Shotton and Annabelle Claire Shotton of Leesburg; one brother, James Preston Osborne and wife Ann of Hardy. She is also survived by several cousins.
Mrs. Shotton attended Independence High School in Grayson County and graduated from Radford University with a degree in Business Education where she served as president of her sophomore class, was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Social Sorority, The Cotillion Club and the American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Shotton was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society, the Suffolk Art League and served as past president of Riddick’s Folly Inc., the Suffolk Literary Club, The Social Club, The Lake Kilby Garden Club, The Suffolk Women’s Golf Association, The Bridge Club and at the time of her death was an associate member of the Nansemond River Garden Club.
Mrs. Shotton served in the Virginia General Assembly for 14 years as a Senate Committee Clerk.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Main Street United Methodist Church. Interment will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Cedar Hill Cemetery Restoration Fund, Nansemond River Garden Club, Cedar Hill Project, In Care of Sue Sanders, 138 Creek Front Lane, Suffolk VA 23435. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family.
