Charles McWarren “Mac” Clarke, 88, died Nov. 5, 2022. Mac was born in Dinwiddie County, grew up in Colonial Heights and has lived in Suffolk since 1970. A 1958 Virginia Tech graduate with a degree in civil engineering, he retired as assistant district engineer with VDOT after 55 and a half years of service. A member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church since 1970, Mac left his mark on every room in the church. He was on the Board of Trustees and church treasurer for many years. Mac and his wife, Carole, worked in the Easter Egg Factory for 43 years, and were in charge of it for over 30 years, modifying and improving the production process most every year.
Mac is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carole T. Clarke; daughter, Carole Blaine Williams and husband Lamont; son, Charles Scott Clarke and wife Christa; and four grandchildren, Miranda Lynn Clarke Bernett (Andrew), Charles John Clarke, Raymond Lee Clarke (Kaitlynn Gorham) and Ariana Sierra Williams.
A funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Beech Grove UMC. The family receives friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
