A Suffolk jury on Monday recommended 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine for a man found guilty of aggravated sexual battery.

Michael Emmett Taylor assaulted a 9-year-old girl between Oct. 5 and Nov. 30, 2009, according to prosecutor Amanda Burks.

The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on an additional count of aggravated sexual battery or on one count each of rape and sodomy. Those charges could be brought back at any time, Burks said, but the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office has not yet decided whether the charges will be renewed.

“We want to discuss that with the family and with members of our office,” Burks said.

The girl’s grandmother found a note addressed to the victim’s mother telling her about the assaults, Burks said. The grandmother gave the note to the victim’s mother, who then reported it to police.
