The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts’ summer art exhibition, “Surf & Sounds of Summer,” will open Thursday and run through Aug. 27.
Patrons can meet the artists at a free opening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. The exhibit is free and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
“Surf & Sounds of Summer” is an “exhibit of artwork that exemplifies positive summer experiences,” center officials said in a news release, noting “crashing waves, sounds of seagulls, children laughing, boats bobbing in the ocean, people fishing and crabbing, picnics of corn on the cob, watermelon, hotdogs and ice cream” as some of the featured images.
‘After seeing all the beautiful summer themed artwork, I was transported back to my childhood and fond memories of our family trips to the beach.” said Rick Byrd, SCCA’s creative director.
The exhibit features 31 artists using a variety of mediums, including felting, beading, painting, photography, pottery and found objects.
Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite piece of artwork in the Surf & Sounds of Summer People’s Choice Award, with voting open through Aug. 27.
