Robert E. Leitner Sr. (Buddy, as many fondly knew him), age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 21, 2021. He went peacefully while surrounded by his children. Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley P. Leitner; brother, Biff; sister, Duddie; and grandson, Joshua.
Buddy was born on Nov. 15, 1932. He lived a blessed life doing what he loved best … working and providing for his family. He loved the Lord, as was evident in his giving. Buddy was a man of few words and many great deeds. He unselfishly did for many family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Many times, he helped those he didn’t even know. Robert, as known to his “Friday Night Fellowship Group,” showed up in style for every event. He was always dressed to impress and lit up the dance floor.
Left to treasure his memory and grateful for all he was to us, our Dad/Pop/Skippy, are his children, Robin, Robert, William and daughter-in-love Christy; grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Sarah (Brian), Cullen (Mary), Katelyn and Zachary; great-grandchildren, who made him light up, Bennett and Brandt; brother, Roney; sister, Frances; brother-in-law, Alda; and special friend, Virginia.
At Buddy’s request, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. Although there will be no formal family visitation, those who wish to pay respects may do so anytime between 3 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Buddy’s memory may be made to the charities that held a special place in his heart for the children of Operation Smile or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
