Charges have been placed against two teens after a standoff with police on Monday afternoon.
Police arrived on scene in the Lloyd Place neighborhood around 1:43 p.m. Monday, attempting to locate the two juveniles that were wanted on multiple felony charges, according to a city press release.
The juveniles, ages 17 and 15, allegedly barricaded themselves in a shed during the incident.
The SWAT team and multiple officers arrived, and citizens and motorists were asked to avoid the area, the press release stated. Residents in the immediate area were told to shelter in place.
The situation was resolved peacefully, as both teens surrendered and the scene was secured by 5:30 p.m., the press release stated.
The teens were transported to police headquarters for questioning and then to Chesapeake Juvenile Services.
The following charges have been placed against the 17-year-old related to incidents that happened in Suffolk on Sept. 30: attempted aggravated malicious wounding; juvenile in possession of a firearm; discharge firearm in a public place; shooting in commission of a felony; and reckless handling of a firearm. That same juvenile was also charged with brandishing a firearm and possession of a firearm by a juvenile related to Suffolk incidents on June 19, the press release stated.
The 15-year-old has been charged with violation of a juvenile court order.
A stolen firearm and ammunition were recovered after the two were taken into custody, the press release stated. The arrested juveniles are the subjects of several ongoing investigations, and additional charges are forthcoming.
Virginia State Code prohibits law enforcement from identifying juveniles charged with a criminal offense.
