Lakeland High School’s Sept. 24 home football game was discontinued after a disturbance involving spectators occurred.
Suffolk Police Department reported on its Facebook page that Suffolk Police officers working security at the Cavaliers game responded to the disturbance at the event at approximately 8:40 p.m. Officers were able to address the situation, which contrary to some social media posts did not involve a shooting, SPD stated.
“During this time, the decision was made to cancel the remainder of the game,” SPD’s 10:35 p.m. Facebook post stated, adding that officers were still on scene at that time. “There have been no injuries reported.”
The SPD post added that Suffolk Police officers routinely work security at high school sporting events for Suffolk Public Schools.
The post concluded by stating that any further inquiries regarding extracurricular or after-school activities and events should be directed to Suffolk Public Schools.
