The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia’s Suffolk BBQ & Oyster Roast for 2021 has been canceled.
Due to safety concerns regarding the rise of COVID-19 cases and the Delta variant, the Suffolk Club Board decided to cancel the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia’s Suffolk BBQ & Oyster Roast initially scheduled for Oct. 2 at Constant’s Wharf & Marina.
“We are all very disappointed to have to cancel the BBQ & Oyster Roast for the second year in a row, but we sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support that we have been receiving from the Suffolk community,” said Rebecca S. Myers, resource development coordinator. “It’s amazing how much you all love our club and our Suffolk youth.”
The BBQ & Oyster Roast is the Suffolk Boys & Girls Club’s yearly fundraiser to support the club’s efforts as it pours into Suffolk’s youth. As the club is still moving forward, funding and support from the community are still needed. There is still an opportunity for folks to support the club despite the cancellation of the fundraiser.
“We are running a Campaign for Suffolk to raise critical funds that our club still needs,” said Myers. “This campaign gives our supporters a chance to support our club programming directly.”
Sponsorship for the club and its programs is available in key areas, including education, character and leadership, workforce readiness, the arts, health and wellness and sports and recreation.
The Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission is to “enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The club does this by providing a safe place, adult mentors, fun and friendship and high-impact youth development programs on a daily basis during non-school hours.
