Melvin Lynch, 85, of Portsmouth, transitioned Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Consulate Health Care of Windsor. He was predeceased by his three brothers.
Melvin was born on July 15, 1936, in Martin County, N.C. to the late George E. Lynch and Annie Everett. During his career, Melvin worked as a forklift driver at the Norfolk Naval Base and lastly a transit bus driver for the City of Suffolk. He was also a devout believer of the Christian faith, having been a dedicated and faithful member of Tabernacle Christian Church under the leadership of Bishop Carlton Upton. Melvin enjoyed attending service and was active in the church’s Mens’ Fellowship and Usher Board.
Left to cherish his precious memories are two daughters; Phyllis Parker of Portsmouth and Brenda Clemons of Suffolk; two sons, Brian Hill (Shelia) of Suffolk and Cory Hill of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Lock Parker, Montrell Parker, Niketa Hilliard (Linwood), Reshon Wilburn, Brian Boone, Cordney Hill, Temple Hill, Faith Hill, Cameron Shaw, Hope Hill and Grace Hill; seven great-grandchildren; several cousins, Sarah Spruill-Sweat of Norfolk, Shirley Spruill, Michael Spruill, Joseph Smith all of Suffolk, Warius Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Ben Jones of Everett, N.C., Inell Doggett of Robertsonville, N.C., and the Rev. Dr. Lorenzo Lynch Sr. of Durham, N.C.
A graveside service was Thursday, Sept. 16, at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Bishop Carlton Upton Sr. will deliver the message of comfort.
