Tropical Storm Warning issued for Suffolk

UPDATE 11:30 p.m. Wednesday: A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Suffolk as Tropical Storm Elsa continues tracking across the Southeast.
Heavy rain bands and embedded thunderstorms are expected to overspread the area Thursday and continue into Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. About 1 to 4 inches of rainfall is forecast, with locally higher amounts. Heavy rainfall will result in the thread of localized flash flooding.
Tropical storm-force wind guests will develop into the evening and night Thursday, with some downed trees and scattered power outages. A few tornadoes will also be possible.
Earlier: A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Suffolk in anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa on Thursday.
The storm’s wind and rain are expected to begin affecting the area on Thursday afternoon, with conditions lasting into the night and early Friday.
About 2 to 4 inches of rain are expected in Suffolk, according to the National Weather Service. Localized flash flooding and urban flooding may result.
Some tornadoes in the area are likely.
The storm made landfall in Florida late Wednesday morning and was expected to track through the Southeast on its way to Virginia.
