Fields graduates from Saint Francis

Kristie Fields, of Suffolk, graduated with a master’s degree from Saint Francis University, Loretto, Pa., during the May 8-9, 2021, commencement exercises. Fields was among more than 700 students who received degrees.

 

Local residents graduate from William & Mary

The following local residents recently graduated from the College of William & Mary:

Local residents named to William & Mary Dean’s List

The following local residents were recently named to the Dean’s List at the College of William & Mary for the spring 2021 semester:

  • Dharav Barot
  • Upasana Barot
  • Ladariah Boone
  • Sylvie Joyner
  • Joseph Tapia

In order to achieve Dean’s List status, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 Quality Point Average during the semester.

 

Local students graduate from Bridgewater College

Bridgewater College celebrated the Class of 2021 on May 1, 2021, on the campus mall. Approximately 321 undergraduate and 32 graduate students from the Class of 2021 received degrees at the ceremonies. Dr. David W. Bushman, president of Bridgewater College, conferred the degrees.

  • Trevor Gillespie-Reigart, of Suffolk, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in information systems management
  • Kylie R. Stout, of Suffolk, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in psychology

 

Salerno graduates from Randolph-Macon

Ariel Joy Salerno, of Suffolk, graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland on Sunday, May 23, 2021, with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and a minor in secondary education.

Salerno was a member of the Noyce Teacher-Scholar Program, a highly selective teacher preparation program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. While at Randolph-Macon, Salerno played on the varsity field hockey team, sang with the Concert Choir, served an internship as a curriculum developer with the DuPont Summer Curriculum Development Program at the Science Museum of Virginia, was a counselor for the Pathways to Science Summer Camp, and studied abroad in Paris, France.

Salerno has accepted a position as a high school chemistry teacher at Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield. She is a 2016 graduate of Lakeland High School, and is the daughter of David and Angie Salerno of Suffolk.

 

Salerno named to Dean’s List

Benji Salerno was named to the Dean’s List at Emory & Henry College for the Spring 2021 semester. To qualify, students must earn a 3.6 GPA and have completed at least 12 credit hours during the semester.

Salerno is a rising junior at Emory & Henry College in Emory. He is majoring in exercise science, with a minor in Spanish, and his goal is to become a physical therapist. He is in the pre-health program and is one of 10 students selected for the college’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Early Assurance Program.

 

Warren honored on Dean’s List

Iman Warren, of Suffolk, was named to the Spring 2021 Dean’s List at Georgia State University.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.

 

Iowa State announces Dean’s List

More than 10,500 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester 2021 Dean’s List.

Among them is Kevin James Kinzel, of Suffolk, a senior food science major.

Students named to the Dean’s List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework.

 

Troy University announces Provost’s List

Troy University recently announced students who have been named to the Provost’s List for the Spring Semester and Term 4 of the 2020/2021 academic year.

Full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who have a grade point average of at least 3.65 qualify for the Provost’s List. The spring semester includes students at the Troy, Ala., campus. Term 4 includes students at Troy’s campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Ala., along with locations outside of Alabama and online.

Spring 2021 graduates announced at UA

The University of Alabama awarded some 5,860 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies April 30-May 2.

  • Briddie Abreu, of Suffolk, earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Haley Hemmis, of Suffolk, earned a Bachelor of Science in construction engineering.

 

Hogan graduates from Wofford

Kelly Elizabeth Hogan received a bachelor of science degree majoring in chemistry and Spanish, summa cum laude, from Hogan University during commencement exercises on May 16, 2021. Hogan is from Suffolk.

 

Appleton graduates from Clarkson

Jay Appleton, of Suffolk, received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in mathematics from Clarkson University on Dec. 31, 2020.

 

Garner named to Dean’s Honor Roll

Lillian Gayhardt Garner, of Dayton, Ohio, was recently named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2021 Honor Roll lists.

Garner is the daughter of Mark and Cindy Garner of Oakwood, Ohio. She is the maternal granddaughter of Suffolk residents Charles and Carol Lynne Shotton and of paternal grandmother Grace Garner Atkins and Russell Garner, deceased.

Garner was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.5-3.74.

In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.

During the academic year, Garner is employed by Total Production Services, LLC as a technical director broadcasting Ole Miss sporting events for the SEC network and ESPNU.

 

Brinkley graduates from the University of Findlay

Alyssa Brinkley, of Suffolk, has graduated from the University of Findlay. Brinkley received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Brinkley was invited to walk in the university’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 8. Nearly 900 graduates earned doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s or associate degrees for the academic year 2020-2021.

 

SNHU announces President’s List

Southern New Hampshire University recently announced the Winter 2021 President’s List. The winter term runs from January to May.

Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 and above are named to the President’s List. The following from Suffolk were honored:

  • Kevin Leliefeld
  • Kimberly Barbaro
  • Virginia Blodgett

 

Students earn degrees from University of Maryland Global Campus

The following Suffolk students have earned degrees from University of Maryland Global Campus.

  • Brandon O. Oliver earned an Associate of Arts
  • Tyler Richard Nist earned an Associate of Arts
  • Cydney Breanna Willis earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies
  • Alexia Luterman earned a Bachelor of Arts in history
  • Kendra Lawann Gates earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting
  • Iliana Garza earned a Bachelor of Science in computer networks and cybersecurity
  • Tanisha Chevone Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in investigative forensics

 

Biando named to Chancellor’s Honor Roll

Lauren Leanne Biando, of Suffolk, was recently named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2021 Honor Roll lists.

Biando was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.0. In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.

 

Fitzgerald named to SNHU Dean’s List

Amanda Fitzgerald, of Suffolk, has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Winter 2021 Dean’s List. The winter term runs from January to May.

Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 to 3.699 are named to the Dean’s List.

 

Walker named to Dean’s List

Shawn Walker, of Suffolk, was named to Tallahassee Community College Spring 2021 Dean’s List.
