I am writing in reference to the “Teen injured in shooting” article that was published June 9.

This article stuck out to me, because I was close by when this incident occurred. Afraid for my life, I put my vehicle in reverse and backed up without regard to who was behind me. I did not see who or what was happening; however, I knew I heard shots firing and I had to get out of there. I left right up the block.

We have to do something in the city of Suffolk to stop this. There should be curfews for these teenagers. They are running and walking the streets at awful times of the night, and parents have lost control. They are carrying guns, selling drugs, and doing the unimaginable! I believe we should set out to form a coalition to help our teens stay off the streets. If Suffolk implements a curfew, this would be a great start to form change in our city. Not to imagine the things we need to keep our children entertained. They do not have any places to go, yet they come to the streets because the streets accept anything and anyone. We are losing too many of our teenagers to nonsense and gun violence.

Here is something to ponder. What are we as parents, residents and fellow natives of Suffolk going to do to help stop gun violence among teens? Please help!
