Nansemond River softball wins regional title, secures state berth

Nansemond River High School’s varsity softball team pulled away for a 14-2 victory over Kempsville High School on June 16 at Stoney Run Athletic Complex in Newport News to win the Region 5A Championship and clinch a berth in the Virginia High School League Class 5 State Tournament.
To reach the regional final, the Lady Warriors prevailed 1-0 against First Colonial High School in the semifinals June 15 and routed Gloucester High School 14-0 in a June 14 quarterfinal game.
At its home site, Nansemond River (14-1) will face the Region 5B champion June 22 in the state semifinals.
