The Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society will hold its annual sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12, at the Phillips-Dawson House, 137 Bank St.

Throughout the year, members of the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society donate various items to sell at this fundraiser. This sale is the biggest fundraising event the historical society holds during the year. The money raised goes to the society’s budget and operational expenses. Its previous sale raised around $3,500.

“Every little bit helps,” said Kimberly Blair-Greene, the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society director.

Due to the pandemic, the annual sale was canceled in 2020. This year, the society is extra excited for the sale as it resumes some of its usual plans. Many unique and fun items will be on display, as two years’ worth of items have now piled up to sell.

“We never know what we are going to get,” said Blair-Greene. “We just store the boxes and when we open them it’s like Christmas.”

A notable contribution to this year’s sale are various kids’ items. A collection of glass clown figures was donated, along with a box of original Beanie Babies with a display shelf. Those are just a few of the items in store for those who visit. Among the items for sale, there is something for everyone. There will be furniture including couches, chairs, a screen and a trunk. There will also be smaller items like platters, vases, teacups, dish towels, aprons, picture frames, rugs and much more.

The Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and promote awareness of the history and culture of Suffolk and old Nansemond County, for both the education and enjoyment of current and future generations, according to suffolkhistory.org.

“I want to express my gratitude for our volunteers that make this happen,” said Blair-Greene. “They have been setting this up for two weeks now. There are too many of them to mention, but they are all greatly appreciated.”
