A Suffolk author wants to help kids learn to pray and expand their literacy.

Elizabeth Green has published a prayer book for children that is out now. The book is called “Seven Days & Seven Prayers in Jesus’ Name.”

Being a pastor’s wife and a former educator, Green wanted to write a book that could be a great learning tool. The book gives a prayer for each day of the week for the kids to pray. Each prayer acknowledges different attributes of God as a provider, creator and savior. The book also helps children learn their days of the week.

“I want this to be a discipleship resource for parents to teach their children prayer,” said Green. “It can also be used by Christian schools, homeschool families, grandparents and churches.”

The book comes in a bundle with other resources to help the discipleship process. Each bundle contains the prayer book, the accompanying prayer journal, bookmarks and a pencil for $24.99 before tax. The format and kid-friendly illustrations provide a conversational style read-aloud book for kids to read with a parent or teacher.

Green wrote these poems in 2003, but she wanted to wait for the right time to publish. Now, Green has started her own publishing company, Green Pastures Publishing LLC. During COVID-19, she has completed more writings for kids and plans to publish them soon.

As she moves forward in her publishing, Green hopes to use her love of reading to serve the community. She plans to hold a book study group on her book “Candy Girl” for girls ages 6 to 8. The book focuses on character and entrepreneurship skills. She also hopes to start back her literacy program Kidz Write For Kidz for children ages 5 to 8. During this program, she helps students learn about reading and writing and helps publish a book of their own. Green also wants to continue her Author in Residence Read Aloud program back in local elementary schools and church programs.

“If kids can learn with me, I’ll do something,” said Green. “I love reading a book with them and just talking about it. No SOLs and homework, just creative fun things. It’s just a way to help the kids.”
