David C. “Ko-Koo” Baker, 73 of Suffolk transitioned peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021, at his residence. He was born Oct. 21, 1947, in Nansemond County.
David was a 1968 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He was a member of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Northrop Grumman Shipyard with 32 years of service as a First Class Welder. He helped co-found the Suffolk Steelers and was involved in Little League Football for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, James G. Baker Sr.; mother, Laura B. Copeland; sister Mildred Copeland; brothers, Dwight N. Baker Sr. and Connie L. Baker.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years Jennifer Ballard Baker; son, David A. Rountree of Norfolk; daughter, Tara Baker Britt (Franco), Suffolk; brother, James G. Baker Jr. Suffolk; loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Ronald Ingram; and niece, Brandy Morgan-Boyd.

A viewing will be held from noon 6 p.m. Sunday, May 9, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Visitation with family will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at noon, Monday, May 10, at Metropolitan Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
