Gladys S. Black, 97, passed away the morning of March 24, 2021.
Gladys was born July 15, 1923, in Chase City, to George and Annie Shepard. She was married to the late Robert H. Black. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her sisters, Frankie and Laura; her brothers, Fulton and Claude; her daughters, Sandra and Barbara; her son, J.T.; and her grandsons, Tommy and Bobby. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie (Carol), Roy (Janice), and Tommy; and her daughter, Evelyn (Lynn); nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Gladys was the center of family gatherings at holidays, Mother’s Day and her birthday. She was an excellent cook and everyone looked forward to her homemade baked rolls.
Gladys followed her Baptist faith throughout her life. She belonged to Fairview Heights Baptist Church in Portsmouth and most recently to Great Fork Baptist Church in Suffolk. She would be pleased by donations in her name to Great Fork Baptist Church. A celebration of life is to be held in late April.
