I was saddened to read about the poor mother whose son’s grave was covered by the previous cemetery owner. It’s devastating enough to lose a child; this just makes the heartache even worse.

I think that the new cemetery management’s offer to add a stone for the missing gravesites is admirable. Ms. Walker DID tell the workers that her son’s grave was there. It also had a marker, so I can’t understand why it was ever “lost” in the first place. The families with lost sites should not have to pay for engraving their loved ones’ names on the new marker. This would be adding insult to injury. They paid for all of that when the burials occurred.

The previous cemetery owner, Abraham Applewhite, should pay for the name engraving. It is the right thing to do. If he doesn’t find it in his heart to do the honorable thing, then I certainly pray someone who does that type of work would be generous enough to provide that service for the families at reduced or no cost.

It would be the ultimate act of kindness and a beautiful act.
