About 70 rabbits died in a barn fire in the 700 block of Buckhorn Drive on Friday.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene after a call that came in at 5 p.m., according to a city press release. They found smoke and fire coming from a detached barn on the property, which housed the rabbits. There were no surviving rabbits.
No injuries to firefighters or others were reported, the press release stated. The fire was marked under control at 5:45 p.m. The barn was completely destroyed, and a residential structure on the property suffered minor heat damage.
Responding units included Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 7, EMS 1, Rescue 1, Tanker 1, Tanker 7, Tanker 8, Ladder 6, Safety 1, and Medic 1.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. No additional information is available for release at this time.
