A 6-year-old boy injured in an ATV accident Friday was on the four-wheeler with an adult and another child, an investigation has revealed.
An adult neighbor and his 4-year-old child were preparing to take a ride on the vehicle when the 6-year-old also got onto the seat. When the adult started the vehicle, the 6-year-old grabbed and engaged the throttle, flipping the ATV and injuring himself, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George.
The injuries appeared to be minor at first, but medical treatment was later necessary, George said. The boy’s parents took him to the Holland Volunteer Fire Department, where Nightingale air ambulance was called to pick up the child.
On Saturday, the child was listed in stable condition in the pediatric intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
Police determined that no laws were broken in the incident, George said. There is no minimum age to ride an ATV, according to Virginia law.
