A local church is preparing for another giveaway event this weekend to help the community get ready for Christmas.

Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic will host its first Winter Giveaway starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 19 at 476 Wellons St.

This giveaway will be a drive-through format in the parking lot of the church. The giveaway will be on a first-come, first-served basis with at least 75 to 100 donations to pass out. The gifts will be given one per vehicle or family that comes through while supplies last.

“We are here to lend a helping hand to our community during this season of giving,” said Jeanette Ruffin, Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic executive assistant.

Each family who drives through will receive a whole turkey or chicken for their family’s Christmas dinner. Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic have other donations that have come in to be shared as helpful kits. These kits will include items families may need during this pandemic, including hand sanitizer and similar items.

Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic originally planned on hosting a Thanksgiving giveaway, but it ended up being moved to Christmas. Despite the turbulent year, the church has done its best to help the community when it can.

“Our church has done multiple other giveaways this year since the shutdown started in March,” said Ruffin.

Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic hosted a care package giveaway at the end of March to give out needed items to the community in the wake of the unexpected shutdown. In September, the church gave out drawstring backpacks full of school supplies and other helpful items to start the virtual school year.

“We want to let the community know that we are here, and we want to give,” said Ruffin.
