Suffolk City Council has called a special meeting for 11 a.m. Oct. 26 to discuss the appointment of an interim city assessor following the resignation of longtime assessor Jean Jackson.
The announcement followed a closed session near the end of the council’s Oct. 21 meeting to discuss the matter.
City spokeswoman Diana Klink said Oct. 16 that Jackson had recently notified council of her retirement, and that her duties are being handled by the deputy assessor.
Jackson had been the city assessor for more than nine years, as council in April 2011 unanimously appointed her as interim city assessor before about four months later appointing her, again unanimously, to be the official assessor.
She had served on the Board of Equalization from 2005 until she was appointed to be the city assessor.
