UPDATE: The victim in Sunday’s fatal crash has been identified as Xavier Maurice Austin, 21, of Suffolk.

An adult male passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a city press release.

Earlier: One person died in a single-vehicle crash that happened on Route 58 eastbound near the Chesapeake city line on Sunday afternoon.

Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews remained on the scene late Sunday. The crash had been reported at 3:24 p.m.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital, where the driver was pronounced deceased. The passenger is being treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

One eastbound lane of Route 58 was closed as the investigation continued. The identity of the deceased will be released once next of kin has been notified. No further information is available at this time.
