Camp celebrates registered nursing completers

Camp Community College Nursing and Allied Health Department recognized the registered nursing Class of 2020 with a special pinning ceremony held virtually May 6 on Camp’s YouTube channel.
College President Dr. Dan Lufkin commended the students for persevering during the pandemic in his welcoming remarks, and concluded by saying “I am proud to recognize you as a graduate of the registered nursing program and as an alumnus of Camp Community College.”
The celebrated students who are members of the Camp Community College Registered Nursing Class of 2020 are D’Ericka Artis of Suffolk, Shavonne Blake of Suffolk, Vickie Clarke of Franklin, Courtney Elam of Suffolk, John Failmezger of Smithfield, Shannon Gray of Suffolk, Megan Hatfield of Ivor, Melissa Jefferson of Suffolk, Lori McNair of Sedley, Kristi Muse of Yale, Ashley Peterson of Suffolk, Alyssa Sadler of Gates, N.C., Kendra Scott of Franklin, Laura Weaver of Suffolk, Lianna White of Franklin, Tonya White of Franklin and Jameka Williams of Petersburg.
Ellis Cofield delivered the invocation and the blessing of the hands. Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Dr. Debbie Hartman recognized National Nurses Week, thanking all health care workers, and introduced the faculty. Also during the event, student awards were presented. The following students received honors presented by assistant professors Kimberly Lowe and Becky Murdoch, and associate professors Trudy Kuehn and Lucy Little:
- Nursing Academic Excellence Award — John Failmezger
- Nursing Clinical Excellence Award — Shannon Gray
- Mentorship Award — John Failmezger
- Dr. Candace Rogers Excellence in Leadership Award — Kendra Scott
- Florence Nightingale Award — Shannon Gray
- National Nursing Student Association Award — Ashley Peterson
- Ann Pinner “One Bite at a Time” Award — Jameka Williams
Graduates Alyssa Sadler, Kendra Scott and Shavonne Blake explained the symbols of the cap, the pin and the lamp, respectively, before the students and faculty took part in reciting the Florence Nightingale pledge in unison. Cofield closed with the benediction.
