Police investigate shooting

Suffolk Police are investigating a shooting that happened late Sunday.
About 11:48 p.m., officers heard and responded to shots fired in the 100 block of East Washington Street, according to a city press release. Officers arriving found more than 100 individuals in the vicinity of an event venue and observed multiple active fights, the press release said.
A 27-year-old woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. She received emergency medical treatment by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel and was ground transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Several individuals were taken into custody for disorderly conduct, and the incident remains under investigation, the press release stated.
