The Western Tidewater Health District gained nine cases of COVID-19 from Friday to Saturday, with a total of 79.

The increase in local cases is almost 13 percent from Friday, only slightly higher than the state’s 12.6-percent increase to 5,077 cases, as reported by the Virginia Department of Health on Saturday morning.
The Virginia Healthcare and Hospital Administration reports there are 735 patients with confirmed COVID-19 who are hospitalized. There are 517 patients hospitalized whose test results are pending.
Combined, the confirmed and pending cases total 426 people in the ICU and 283 on a ventilator. About 23 percent of the ventilators on hand in the state are in use for all patients.
