Local COVID-19 cases increase by 2

The Western Tidewater Health District saw an increase of only two confirmed cases from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The district now has 64 cases, according to the Wednesday morning update from the Virginia Department of Health. Suffolk had 31 cases, with 23 in Isle of Wight County and five each in Franklin and Southampton County.
The two new cases represented one each in Suffolk and Franklin.
Statewide, there are 3,645 total cases, an increase of 9 percent from Tuesday, the VDH reported.
The Virginia Healthcare and Hospital Administration reports there are 649 confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the state. About the same number of people — 640 — are receiving inpatient hospital care and awaiting the results of the test.
There are 468 confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
The number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients on ventilators statewide is 293. There are 705 ventilators in use at hospitals for all patients, representing 27 percent of the total ventilators on hand.
