Local COVID-19 cases rise 20 percent

COVID-19 cases in Virginia took a 9-percent increase from Sunday to Monday, rising to 2,878.
There have been 497 hospitalizations and 54 deaths, according to the numbers released Monday morning by the Virginia Department of Health.
Cases in the Western Tidewater Health District have increased to 59, up 20 percent from Sunday’s report of 49.
There are 28 cases in Suffolk, 22 in Isle of Wight County, five in Southampton County and four in Franklin.
