Like the Virginia High School League, the VISAA has decided to cancel its spring season due to COVID-19 outbreak.
The Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association decision affects Nansemond-Suffolk Academy spring sports. The VISAA put out this statement last week:
“As a result of Virginia Gov. Northam’s decision to close all schools (private and public) in the commonwealth of Virginia for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year in response to COVID-19 pandemic, the VISAA has canceled all VISAA sanctioned championships for the spring of 2020.”
A couple of teams were able to get some games in before play was suspended. The NSA baseball team went 3-2, while the boys’ lacrosse team went 3-1. The girls’ lacrosse team got off to a 1-0 start.
Teams like girls’ soccer and softball were only able to compete in scrimmages. NSA had two teams coming off of state championships — the softball team and boys’ lacrosse team — that will have to wait a year to defend their crown.
