To the editor:
I just read an article on the social side effects of the coronavirus, where people of Asian descent have been targeted by racists due to people’s belief that the virus is the fault of Asian people.
During this pandemic, it is unnerving the idea that people are using this crisis to spread more hatred. At the time the community needs people to band together the most, some are using this to divide people.
It is in times of crisis that people need to show their compassion and possibly help one another through the tough times. But sadly, all we see are people rushing to buy up all the necessities, barely leaving behind some products for the less fortunate. I hope when this pandemic passes, everyone really reflects on the way they handled it. Then maybe next time, people will have a more community-friendly mindset and help one another gather supplies necessary for survival.
Better yet I hope there is not another pandemic.
