A group of local business owners is teaming up to offer meals and other essentials to the community this Saturday.
LeOtis Williams of LW’s Lawn Service, Boo McGee of Amici’s Pizza Café, Tyrone Burke of Triple T Sports Center and Mike Duman of Mike Duman Auto Superstore will hold a drive-through event from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday at LW’s Lawn Service, 615 Old E. Pinner St.
They will hand out family meals, canned food items, bleach and other essential products to those in need, and they are asking only those truly in need to attend.
“It’s something positive among the negative,” Duman said in a phone interview on Wednesday. “There’s not many things we can do to try to change the situation, but we can try to make it a little easier for those that need the assistance,” he said.
Duman said Williams had been planning the event at his place, and Duman had also been considering options to help the community at his business. When Duman found out about Williams’ event, they combined efforts, and the event grew from there.
“It seemed to be a perfect match,” Duman said.
The family meals from Amici’s will include baked ziti, salad, bread and mini cannoli to feed six to eight people. The meals, canned food items, bleach and other essentials will all be in limited quantities.
Duman said the coronavirus pandemic has left a lot of people feeling helpless, but he felt this was one way he and his fellow business owners could help.
“It’s kind of a tribute to the community itself and trying to look out for some folks that need a little bit of help at this time,” he said.
