Three separate accidents on Route 58 backed up traffic on Thursday morning.
Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the first two crashes on the eastbound side near the landfill, which were reported at 7 and 7:15 a.m.
The first involved a passenger vehicle that left the roadway and hit a guardrail, landing in the water-filled ditch in the center median. Two occupants were treated for minor injuries.
The second accident was a rear-end collision involving two vehicles in the same area. No injuries were reported in that crash.
One lane of travel was open while first responders cleared the scene and awaited tow trucks.
Later, at 9:18 a.m., another crash happened on the westbound side about a quarter-mile from the weigh scales, city spokeswoman Diana Klink stated. That vehicle also left the roadway and wound up in the watery ditch in the center median. The driver was able to get out prior to the arrival of emergency crews, and she was ground transported to a local hospital by Suffolk Fire & Rescue.
All three accidents remain under investigation.
