The price for gas in Virginia has remained steady, despite the unrest in Iran, AAA Tidewater Virginia announced Monday.

According to a Monday press release, the gas price in Virginia as of Monday was $2.39, which is only eight cents more than last month, but also a 36-cent increase from the same time last year.

The average price for gas in the Hampton Roads area as of Monday was nine cents more than last month and a 38-cent difference from last year. The national average held steady for the week at $2.58, “but that could change depending on the movement of crude oil prices due to geopolitical concerns,” the press release states.

“It’s typical to see crude oil prices become more expensive amid current events,” Holly Dalby, spokeswoman for AAA Tidewater Virginia, stated in the press release. “What this increase means in terms of retail prices is yet to be seen. It depends on how high crude oil prices go and the duration at which it sells at a higher price point in the market.”

Gasbuddy.com on Tuesday recorded regular gas prices in Suffolk that ranged from $2.24 to $2.36 per gallon, which is a sharp increase compared to the $2.14-to-$2.29 range that was recorded on gasbuddy.com on Dec. 19.
