Eye Ball puts focus on 20/20 vision in 2020

Yes, Suffolk Eye Physicians’ 2020 20/20 Eye Ball Tuesday at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront was a way for its employees to ring in the new year a little early.

But it also puts the focus squarely on what the business wants for its customers — better vision. And what better tie-in than to set their sights on 20/20 vision in the year 2020.

“It’s the easiest advertisement we’ve got,” said Jennifer Schneider, owner of Suffolk Eye Physicians, which was ringing in the new year “on Bangkok time,” which is 12 hours ahead of Suffolk. “This is the year to get your 20/20 vision in the year 2020, so we’re really promoting healthy eye exams, routine eye care, updating your glass prescription, cataract surgery, if needed — anything to get you to that 20/20 mark.”

The practice has five offices — two in Suffolk and one each in Franklin, Smithfield and Carrollton.

Schneider said eye care for the new year has been a particular point of emphasis.

“I’ve been pushing it to my employees, pushing it to our patients, every patient I’ve seen lately, that 2020 is the year to get your eyes in order,” Schneider said. “So, I’ve really been pushing it to my employees, to my front desk to get people in because it really is important.”

They dropped confetti at the stroke of noon, and danced the afternoon away.

Schneider acknowledged that the year 2020 is the perfect hook to get people focused on their vision, and she plans to take full advantage. The practice is looking to increase its patient volume and increase awareness of having good vision.

She said people can unknowingly, and gradually, be losing their vision, or having ocular tumors — which can be asymptomatic and thus missed without undergoing a routine eye exam — that can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated.

“Even if you feel you have good vision, there are multiple diagnoses that can go undiagnosed unless they are checked by an eye doctor.”

And in 2020, she believes that can be the perfect attention-grabber to look at one’s eye health in a new light and said this year “is going to be a big year to spread that awareness.”

“We don’t care where you go,” Schneider said. “We’d love for you to come see us, but we just want you to see somebody and have that routine checkup.”
