Pedestrian dies after being struck by train

UPDATE: Suffolk police have identified the male victim as Kerry L. Hawkins, 55, of Suffolk.

All previously closed roadways have reopened, a city press release stated.

The accident remains under investigation.

Earlier: A pedestrian died in a train accident on Friday evening.

The accident happened at the crossing in the 300 block of East Washington Street near the intersection with Hall Avenue, according to a city press release. It was reported at 6:30 p.m.

Suffolk Police confirmed the victim was deceased at the scene. The roadway in this location along with the rail crossing at Liberty Street and Moore Avenue are closed and will remain closed for an undetermined period of time, according to the city press release.

The accident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available for release.
