Despite a slow start to the season, the Lady Knights feel capable of finishing strong.

The Suffolk Christian Academy girls’ basketball team has not quite started the season as hoped. They are 3-7 on the season and recently played in the Portsmouth Christian Academy Holiday Tournament last week, losing both games. Last year, the Lady Knights won that tournament.

Coach Kristy Patton believes the Lady Knights are capable of starting off 2020 strong.

“My hope is that we are getting ready to turn things around for next year,” Patton said. “We have another tournament coming up that we won last year, so we have a chance to start there. We are going to be preparing for the battles ahead. We have been seeing our fair share of defeats over the last couple of weeks, and now we feel like it’s time to bounce back.”

Patton mentioned that one of the reasons for the slow might have been due to complacency. The Lady Knights are coming off a strong year from last season, and maybe it has taken them a bit slower this season, as they may have expected to pick right back up where they left off.

“I feel like at the end of the day it’s all a learning experience for us,” Patton said. “Maybe we felt like because we were so good last season that maybe we could be just as good in cruise control, but sometimes the only way to learn things is when you live it. So right now, we are just in the process of learning and we are feeling good about our bounce-back potential for next year.”

SCA will defend its holiday tournament title at Victory Christian Academy. They have a full slate of games for January, which will put them on track to finish the season strong.
