A Hampton woman died in a multi-vehicle crash at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on Monday.

Karen Louise Grieser, 57, of the 1000 block of Hickory Hill Road, succumbed to her injuries on the scene, according to a press release from Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes about 5:24 p.m. on Monday. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Isuzu box truck driven by Tyler Ross Beam struck a 2019 Chevy Trax in the rear, then struck Grieser’s 2005 GMC 1500 pickup in the rear, causing it to run into a jersey wall and overturn partially on top of a 2002 Ford Explorer. The impact caused the Explorer to rear-end a 2020 Kia Sportage.

Beam was transported from the scene and charged with reckless driving, Anaya’s press release stated.
